The Ripsaw Hiatus

When I was about seven years old, I was at a Girl Scouts meeting that I didn't even want to go to. We were doing an exercise to demonstrate memory, politeness, and people skills by each taking turns being a "waitress" taking the other girls' orders and then serving them plastic food specific to their demands. I messed up everybody's order and all the girls got mad at me and laughed as they pelted me with plastic food. Even my mom laughed at me. And if I had to describe my life now, I'd say that day at Girl Scouts would be foreshadowing how I was going to feel everyday afterwards for the next 14 years... So, yeah. Hey, where are you going?! Come back!

After sticking our hands in Lake Superior last night and deeming it “not too bad”, Zach and I began planning to do what we did two June’s ago: gather all of our bravest friends for a chilly mid-Spring skinny dip.
Those who should turn down the challenge will be ridiculed as “pussies” and will be told to wait in the car with the heater on full blast, readying the car so the Champions of the Lake will have a warm retreat waiting for them as a reward for their victories.

The northern lights were out last night. It was pretty cool when this ship went by, and offered a unique photo-op.

Northern lights were out last night. While it was cloudy, they were still visible and pretty vivid.

There were northern lights last night?! Aww, man…

Sitting out on the beach today with a cup of coffee and the wonderful 70 degree weather was just delightful, and exactly what I needed to readjust to a better mood. And now they’re talking about getting snow this week… Why do you have to play me like that, Duluth? Just make up your mind already.

Pictures from last night (Feb. 18th, 2012).

Got a tip from someone on Facebook that northern lights were out right as I had gotten into bed. I was, and still am, pretty sick. I happened to be up at about 11:30pm since I had finished applying for some jobs.
Originally I decided to stay in bed, but a split second later I decided I should go out.

In my haste to get out ASAP, I forgot my extra battery. I only got about 10 pictures before my camera died. Luckily I had a car charger so after 20 minutes I snapped some more before it again died, which happened to be when the lights died out just after 1AM.

I have a lens which isn’t the best, and my camera (SONY A230) isn’t great either. I can’t wait until I get a career so I can afford better equipment.

All were taken at Brighton Beach (Lake Superior) near Duluth, MN.

(Sorry they are small- Tumblr won’t let me upload if they are bigger. Tumblr is being extremely stupid)

Tumblr apparently is only letting me upload one at a time, so here they are: Photos from the Aurora Borealis in Duluth, MN around midnight on 3/8/2012. I got frostbite, but it was definitely one of the most amazing experiences I have ever encountered!!

I checked around Midnight but didn’t see any. :( I would have stayed up and waited, but I had to wake up at 6 this morning…
